Originally from the Basque region (Spain/France) and trained as a classical musician, Isa Suarez is a composer, songwriter, sound-artist and singer.
In 1987 she moved to the UK to study and work. She started performing within the music scene of the 1990s with her own band Fin De Siecle (electro/dub/jazz) and released various albums and compilations. During this period she collaborated with Transglobal Underground and The Revolutionary Dub Warriors and also composed music for theatre and dance such as Serio Ensemble and Random Dance Company.
In 1997, after training at The London International Film School, she began composing scores for features, documentaries and animation both in the UK and internationally. TV channels she has worked with include: Channel 4, 5, National Geographic, Discovery, France3, La Sexta as well as a number of independent production companies worldwide. Recent films credits include: Shackleton's Whisky/National Geographic/U.S.A; Paths Through Utopia/France/UK; Ollie Kepler's Expanding Purple World/UK; Carpe Diem/Canada.
Her musical style is eclectic and combines electronic, classical, jazz, experimental and urban music.
Inspired by her interest in human rights and community engagement, Suarez has created a number of sound installations over the past decade that explore these subjects through performance, music, visual art and lyrics. Some of this work has been exhibited at leading London galleries including Tate Britain, Barbican Arts Centre, Whitechapel Art Gallery and South London Gallery. These projects have also led her to collaborate, perform and exhibit with other communities and artists in London, South Africa and Argentina including Amnesty International, Platform, Big Chill Festival, Liberty Festival, Cape Town 09 Art Bienale and Etoy.
