The Main Members
Isa Suarez, leader and founder of FIN DE SIECLE, plays keyboards, computers, samplers and vocals. She came to England in 1997 from the Basque Country (South of France), and worked with various bands as a keyboard player: punk/industrial bands with The Bulbous Skunk Cabbages, Bourbonese Qualk, and funk/pop/rock with The Cath Jefferson Experience. She has been composing for film, choreography and theatre since 1988. She has also worked for Deptford Community Radio and researched Afro-Brazilian rhythms in Salvador, and Sounds from The Amazon, Brazil. Recently she has been composing for C.D Roms and for feature film.
Cyroy/Zedekia has been playing percussion for many years, growing up amongst a family tradition of drumming. In addition to FIN DE SIECLE, he has completed albums with African Reggae band Harare Dread, and with The Ras Messengers, playing Nile Valley style. He also plays Jazz with The Mandino Project. Since 1995 he plays and composes for dance companies: Irie, The Bullies Ballerinas and Shanturia.
Pelado mixes the electronics live at the FIN DE SIECLE concerts and collaborates with the band on composition, arrangements and mixing. He is a composer/programmer who has been collaborating with Isa Suarez in various compositions since 1997, for film music and for her solo show. His experimental debut album has been released in 2000.
Fin de Siecle, whose visionary debut album 'End Of The Century' is released 1st April `96 (TIRCD 003) through Totem International Records and co-produced by Alex Kasiek from Transglobal Underground, don't predict the future so much as sense it. For a band obsessed with what's to come, they also resonate deeply with the present, embodying a recognisable moment oftransition, of anticipation, a moment of enlightened instability. They understand that as we gear ourselves up for the millennium, anything can happen, and in their case, it usually does. Jon Selzer. Melody Maker
Sit up and take note, here's a good one...Fin De Siecle are out there on the edge... the missing link between Einsturzende Neubauteri and The Oroonies (or maybe Webcore)? Yeah, that good..., this is special, it's spiritual, it's got a groove all of it's own, it's a vivacious colourful blend of sounds, a brave set of contradictions, heavy (slightly industrial) dub weaving around saxaphone, flute and clarinet. Fronted by the rather French sounding voice of Isa Suarez, Fin De Siecle are busy playing the exciting toilets of London town as we speak....hopefully they're going to rise above them soon, you should get along and check them out now. End of the century dread and hope, beauty and uglyness......if ever The Oroonies were to go industrial on us this is what it would sound like, wonderfully mellow....one of the tapes of the year. No contact address but they're outthere gigging quite a bit so go and check them out. The Organ, March
Now I've spoken to Fin's vocalist Isa on many occasions, and she seems like a pleasant and well balanced person. Put her in the context of the band though, and everything changes. Fin De Siecle are an experimental mood outfit with a strong European flavour, no doubt helped by Isa's prominent French accent. Anchored by some solid sequenced bass, the other instruments are free to spiral all over the place. Vocals drift in and out, a snakecharmer appears briefly, one of the band plays "saxophone, flute, clarinet, supermarket trolly and rubbish bin". Clearly this is not your average Rock & Roll band. There are elements of Jazz, Dub, World and Kraftwerk style computerisation here, cleverly woven into some compelling and intriguing soundscapes. Check them out, but be prepared for a suprise. Making Music, April '94 Fin De Siecle sound like they're on the edge of a new world where the laws of physics no longer have quite the same hold. This is the end-of-the-millennium dread at its most exhilarating, locked into an off-kilter, subterranean groove that doesn't know where it's headed, as keyboards and saxophones branch off onto uncharted territories. They look pretty good, too. Melody Maker, January
